Solving small but nagging real-life issues with technology.

The Problem

Like millions of other people, we use Google Photos to back up our memories. When we downloaded our entire photo library using Google Takeout, we discovered a major problem: all the file creation dates and other metadata were reset to the date we downloaded them! The original "Date Taken", "location", "device information", and many other media file related information was trapped inside thousands of separate `.json` or within media files. Fixing this manually would have taken weeks or months.

The Solution

As a technology enthusiast, we decided to solve this problem. We created TakeoutFixer, a simple utility that automates the entire process. It reads the correct timestamp, location, and device information from the `.json` files and applies it to the corresponding photos and videos, putting your memories back in the right order.

Having built this simple but effective tool to solve our problems, we thought of sharing it with others.
